BNP Standing Committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy said, “Democracy and the BNP are one and the same. I want to judge a conspiracy against the BNP and a conspiracy against democracy by the same standard.”

He made the remarks on Thursday (1 May) at a workers’ rally organised to mark International Workers’ Day in front of the BNP central office at Naya Paltan in the capital.

Gayeshwar Chandra Roy said fascism had to be driven out to restore democracy, but democracy had yet to fully emerge and remained, in his words, “stuck in quicksand.”

He added that the situation would change and expressed hope that, under the leadership of Tarique Rahman, democracy would eventually prevail.

The BNP Standing Committee member also said the interim government had signed an agreement with Arakan under seven conditions and questioned why those conditions had not been disclosed.

He further remarked that similar agreements in the past had not been made public and warned that such arrangements could eventually create serious challenges for the country.
