Model and actress Tanzia Zaman Mithila is representing Bangladesh at the 74th Miss Universe competition. After winning the Miss Universe Bangladesh 2025 crown last September, she travelled to Thailand in the final week of October to participate in the main event, carrying the national flag.
Amid various controversies on social media, Mithila shared a video message expressing disappointment over criticism from people within her own country and highlighting the challenges of competing on the global stage.
She said that trolling from foreigners does not affect her as much, but a lack of appreciation from her own people is genuinely painful, especially considering the hard work, discipline and preparation required to represent Bangladesh internationally.
Responding to criticism about wearing a bikini, Mithila stated that participation in certain segments of the competition follows strict rules. According to her, adhering to those requirements is essential for progressing in the contest.
She added that the global stage is highly competitive, with strong contestants from many countries, and emphasised that encouragement and support from fellow Bangladeshis are especially important during such an international competition.
