Staff Report:
The investigation into allegations against Aminul Islam, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Tahirpur Police Station in Sunamganj, has been completed. The allegations include bribery, smuggling, looting of mineral sand and stone, and accepting a television as a gift from a relative of an accused individual named in multiple cases.
The investigation report, which details his involvement in various irregularities and corruption that have tarnished the image of the police force, has been forwarded to the Sylhet Range DIG’s office for further action. Responsible officers from Police Headquarters and the Sylhet Range DIG’s office confirmed this information on Wednesday (March 4).
Notably, following the allegations of bribery, smuggling, and accepting a color television from an accused person's relative, a three-member investigation committee was formed by the Sunamganj District Police under a memorandum from Police Headquarters. The committee included an Additional Superintendent of Police, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (Tahirpur Circle), and a Police Inspector.
After conducting the investigation through public testimony and secret technological surveillance since February 21, the committee submitted its report to the Sylhet Range DIG’s office on Monday (March 2).
The investigation proved the allegation that OC Aminul Islam accepted a color television as a "gift" from the relative of an accused person through intimidation and is currently using it himself.
The report highlights that OC Aminul established a bribery syndicate. He allegedly maintained public and secret ties with certain dishonest officers (including SI Pankaj Das, SI Deepak Chandra Das, ASI Abdul Malek, and SI Ripon Uddin) and criminal informants (sources) such as Ujjal and Bablu (an accused in a drug case).
The investigation looked into accusations of taking bribes to allow illegal dredging of sand and stone from the Jadukata and other rivers. It also covered the smuggling of Indian bidis, coal, limestone, cosmetics, and cattle by evading customs duties.
The investigation committee reportedly obtained audio clips through technological means confirming OC Aminul's involvement in bribery.
It is further alleged that while previously stationed with the Habiganj DB, Aminul Islam accepted money to frame an elderly man in a false Yaba (drug) case. Although the man was later acquitted by the court, a departmental case was filed against Aminul following a complaint to Police Headquarters.
OC Aminul has denied all allegations, claiming he is not involved in any irregularities.
On Wednesday Pranay Roy,  the Assistant Superintendent of Police (Tahirpur Circle) and a member of the investigation committee, confirmed that the report has been officially submitted to the Sylhet Range DIG for the next course of action.
